Donor terms

Donor terms.

How gifts are received, receipted, designated and, when needed, refunded.

Last updated October 17, 2026

These terms apply to gifts made to Future of Humanity Foundation (“the Foundation”) through this website, its donation forms, and its payment processor. By making a gift, you agree to them.

Who receives your gift, and its tax status

Your gift is made to Future of Humanity Foundation, a Texas nonprofit corporation at 710 N. Post Oak Rd., Suite 400, Houston, TX 77024.

The Foundation is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (ruling June 2023). Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our tax identification number is available on request and appears on your receipt.

Unless we tell you otherwise at the time of your gift, you receive no goods or services in exchange for it. If you do receive something of value, such as an event ticket, we will tell you its fair market value, and only the amount above that value is deductible. We cannot give tax advice; please consult your own tax advisor about your situation.

Receipts

You will receive an email receipt as soon as your online gift is processed. It shows the amount and date and states whether any goods or services were provided, so it serves as the written acknowledgment the IRS requires for gifts of $250 or more. Monthly donors also receive a year-end summary by January 31 for the prior year. If you give anonymously and leave no email address, we cannot send a receipt; contact us and we will help.

Designated gifts

You may ask that your gift support a particular project or pillar, such as Lunar Grove, Space, Intelligence, Life, or the First 100 Fellows. We honor these requests. Gifts without a designation go where they are needed most.

As required for a public charity, the Foundation’s board keeps final control over how contributions are used. If a designated project is fully funded, ends, changes, or can no longer be carried out, the board may use your gift for the closest related purpose in the same pillar or, if none exists, where it is needed most. We will tell donors of a significant change of this kind.

Public votes to sponsor Fellows’ projects help the board and Fellows decide year-end sponsorship awards. A vote is an expression of support. It is not a gift, and it does not direct or restrict any gift.

Anonymous giving and acknowledgment

You may give anonymously. If you do, your name will not appear in any public list, report, or acknowledgment, and will not be shared with Fellows or project teams. You may instead choose how you would like to be listed, for example “The Smith Family,” and you can change that choice for future acknowledgments at any time. Our payment processor and internal financial records still hold the details needed to process the gift and meet our legal obligations; see our privacy policy.

Gifts made “in honor of” someone may be acknowledged with that person’s name. Please tell us if you would like us to notify them.

Monthly gifts

A monthly gift is charged on about the same day each month until you cancel it. You can cancel or change it at any time using the link in your receipt or by contacting us. Cancellation takes effect before the next scheduled charge.

Refunds

Gifts to a charity are generally final. We will refund a gift made in error, such as a wrong amount, a duplicate charge, or an unauthorized charge, if you contact us within 30 days of the charge. Refunds go back to the original payment method. When a gift is refunded, its receipt is void and the gift is not deductible. Please contact us before disputing a charge with your bank so we can fix it quickly.

Large gifts, stock, and other assets

To discuss a major gift, a gift of securities, a donor-advised-fund grant, or a gift by wire or check, please contact us. We may decline any gift that conflicts with our mission or values, including the Foundation’s commitment to work that ties into and augments nature.

Your privacy

We never sell, rent, or trade donor information. Our privacy policy explains what we collect and how we use it. You will receive email updates only if you ask for them, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. We may update them; the version posted on the date of your gift applies to it.
